Law on Mongolian Parliamentary election was adopted.

Based on its Decree #18, Lower House (State Small Hural) of the Parliament created the General Election Commission consisting of 15 Commissioners as a part of the Upper House (State Great Hural) of the Parliament. S.Lhagvasuren was elected as a Chairman and D.Bayanduuren as a General Secretary.

 

Jul 2, 1992

The Parliamentary election was held in 26 multi-mandated electoral districts in which 293 candidates from 10 political parties and independents ran for Parliament. The voter turnout was 95.6 percent.

 

Feb 15, 1993

Mongolian Presidential Election Law was adopted.

 

Jun 6, 1993

Two candidates ran for Presidency in the first round of the Presidential election and the votes were cast in 1538 polling stations. The voter turnout was 92.7 percent.

 

Jun 30, 1996

The second Parliamentary election was held in which 302 candidates from 5 political parties, 2 coalitions and independents ran for Parliament in 76 electoral districts. The voter turnout was 92.15 percent.

 

Aug 27, 1996

Law on Election of Aimag (Province), Capital, Soum (Sub-Province), and District Hurals of Citizen Representatives was adopted.

 

1996-2000

Parliamentary by-elections were held in electoral districts#17, #21, #37 and #53.

 

May 18, 1997

Three candidates ran for Presidency in the first round of the Presidential election and the votes were cast in 1552 polling stations. The voter turnout was 85.06 percent.

 

Feb 10, 1998

The General Election Commission became a member of the Association of Asian Election Authorities (AAEA).

 

Jul 2, 2000

The third Parliamentary election was held in which 602 candidates from

13 political parties, 3 coalitions and independents ran for Parliament. The voter turnout was 82.43 percent.

 

2000-2004

Parliamentary by-elections were held in electoral districts #11, #22, #36,

 

Feb 1, 2001

Based on its Decree #14, the Parliament (State Great Hural) restructured the General Election Commission with 11 Commissioners.   J.Yadamsuren was elected as a Chairman, J.Sukhbaatar as a General Secretary.

 

Feb 12, 2001

Administration office at the General Election Commission was established and headed by the Secretary of the GEC.

 

May 20, 2001

Three candidates ran for Presidency in the first round of the Presidential election and votes were cast in 1584 polling stations. The voter turnout was 82.94 percent.

 

Jun 27, 2004

Fourth Parliamentary election was held in which candidates from 7 political parties, 3 coalitions and independents ran for the Parliament in 76 electoral districts. The voter turnout was 81.94 percent.

 

May 22, 2005

Four candidates ran for Presidency in the first round of the Presidential election and the votes were cast in 1,631 polling stations. The voter turnout was 74.98 percent.

 

2004-2006

Parliamentary by-elections were held in electoral districts #65 and #46.

Law on Mongolian Parliamentary Election was adopted.

Law on Central Electoral Body was adopted.

 

Apr 27, 2006

General Election Commission was reorganized based on Parliament Decrees #31 and #33. 9 commissioners were appointed and B.Battulga was elected as a Chairman, B.Bayarsaikhan as a General Secretary.

 

Jan 18, 2007

Law on Local Legislative Election was adopted.

 

Jun 27, 2008

The fifth Parliamentary election was held in which candidates from 12 political parties, coalitions and 45 independents ran in 26 multi-mandate electoral districts. The voter turnout was 76.46 percent.

 

Jan 16, 2009

N.Luvsanjav was appointed as a Chairman and Ch.Sodnomtseren as a General Secretary of GEC based on Parliament resolutions #18 and #20.

 

May 24, 2009

Two candidates ran for Presidency in the first round of the Presidential election and the votes were cast in 1698 polling stations. The voter turnout was 73.59 percent.

Parliamentary by-election was held in electoral district #24.

Law on Election Automated System was adopted.

Law on Mongolian Parliamentary Election was revised and adopted.

Jan 01, 2012

Information Technology Center at the GEC was established as a part of the GEC. J.Erdenebat was appointed as a Director of the Center.

Law on Election of Capital city Hural of Citizen Representatives was adopted.

 

Jun 28, 2012

The sixth Parliamentary election was held in which 354 candidates from 11 parties, 2 coalitions and independents and 190 candidates nominated from party lists ran in 26 multi-mandate electoral districts. Automatic voting machines were used for the Parliamentary election for the first time and the voter turnout was 67.29 percent. Mongolia also polled its citizens residing overseas for the first time.

Ch.Sodnomtseren was appointed as a Chairman and B.Altanjargal as a General Secretary of GEC based on Parliament resolutions #41 and #42.

Regular Election of Aimag (Province), Soum (Sub-Province), and District Hurals of Citizen Representatives in which candidates from 7 political parties, 2 coalitions, independents and candidates from soums (sub-provinces), bags (smallest administrative units) and party lists. Total of 1858 candidates ran for 745-mandate Aimag Hural of Citizens representatives, 844 candidates ran for 295-mandate district Hural of Citizens Representatives, and 16543 candidates ran for 6990-mandate soum Hural of Citizens Representatives. Automatic voting machines were used for local elections for the first time and the voter turnout was 52.90 percent.

Three candidates ran for Presidency in the first round of the Presidential election. Automatic voting machines were used for the elections and the voter turnout was 66.50 percent. Citizens residing overseas were also polled.

 

Ch.Sodnomtseren was reappointed as a Chairman and Ts.Boldsaikhan as a General Secretary of GEC and Mr.Sodkhuu as a member based on Parliament resolutions #39 and #43.
